Sony Catching Up?

According to Sony’s VP of marketing and head of the PlayStation Network, Peter Dille, Sony is now catching up to Microsoft in terms of console sales. He went further to predict that the PS3 would fulfil its ten year life span in an interview with IGN, and stated that he didn’t believe the Xbox 360 would be around for as long as the Sony console.

"We can be passionate fans, but I don't think they'll be around in 10 years so I'm very confident we'll pass them within that time frame," Dille said.

"I mean, we've got 31 million [units sold] worldwide right now - they've got 39 million [units sold]. I don't even need to go out 10 years. I'm not going to make any predictions for your interview today other than we'll pass them, but you look at where we are today and where they are today, and they had an opportunity to sprint as far ahead of us as possible when they had the head start.

"Well, we're breathing down their necks and they can see us in the rearview mirror and it's not going to take too long to pass them."

Studios Safe at Take-Two

Take-Two interactive have come out against rumours that they are cutting staff at studio level. Reports have stated that the publisher, which own numerous prominent development studios, will be cutting large amounts of staff (up to 20%) across the board. Take-Two described these reports as ‘erroneous’, adding that no reductions were made at studio level.

"While it is our policy not to comment on rumours or speculation, we wanted to clarify an erroneous report regarding our company,” Take-Two VP of corporate communications and public affairs, Alan Lewis, told Edge in a statement.

"As part of Take-Two's stated goal to maximise the efficiency of our business, we initiated a targeted restructuring of our corporate departments only in order to better align our resources with our current goals. Some of these changes were associated with the pending sale of our Jack of All Games distribution
