A Big Expense
Eric Brown, the chief financial officer for Electronic Arts, has stated that BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO is the most expensive game the company has ever made or published. As reported by Eurogamer, Brown told a Wedbush Morgan Securities audience that the game was the "largest ever development project, period, in the history of the company".
Although he gave no exact figure for the development cost behind the title, Brown hinted that the game was costing around US$100 million, by way of comparison to World of WarCraft.
"That's lifetime [research and development] to actually ship it and obviously then there's maintenance subsequent to ship and expansion packs," said Brown.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a sequel to the two Knights of the Old Republic games. Its tentative release date has been set for the third quarter of 2011.

Sony Moves…
After much speculation and many rumours, Sony have finally announced the name of their new motion control scheme. It will officially be known as the PlayStation Move. The company also revealed that the Move will be used in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye, as well as a ‘sub-controller’.
The ‘sub-controller’ will expand control options, and will provide the player with an analog stick and directional buttons.
The PlayStation Eye camera "detects the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move motion controller," Sony said. The Move peripheral will feature a "three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer and terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a colour-changing sphere"… the latter to allow better tracking by the Eye.
"We like to think this is the next-generation of motion gaming," said SCEA's Peter Dille during the official unveiling at GDC in San Francisco. "Nintendo has done a great job introducing motion gaming to the masses. We like to think the migration from Wii to PS3 is a pretty natural path."
