Vibrant, colourful and vast. That is... Horizon Zero Dawn.
Now the beauty of this game is that it's a new IP so there's nothing to compare it to in context to past titles, it's the 1st of its kind. Of-course once you play the game though it's a different story, you'll pick up mechanics and features you've probably experienced in other titles, namely, Ubisofts Assassins Creed series, FarCry Primal and a hint of CD Projekt Reds The Witcher and maybe WB Games Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
For this setting think of these movie titles: I am Legend, i Robot and Jurassic Park. You play as a female protagonist, shunned by her people in a world set in the distant future filled with bandits, brigands and ROBOT DINOSAURS... Giant ones too obviously! On a quest to unravel her mysterious past and figure out her purpose in the world in order to fulfil her destiny... What ever it might be.
In terms of gameplay Horizon is pretty solid, delivering fluidity in both combat and exploration (get those patches going if you're experiencing issues). Visuals are absolutely stunning, they've even added a Photo mode option to compliment this. Getting in depth with the game though isn't exactly rocket science, crafting is simple. Loot, resource and material drops are abundant except well the rare stuff for the top notch gear merchants have lying in their inventory. If you want to survive in the world of Horizon preparation is key. With weather elements affecting you as you traverse the vast landscapes and biomes you'll want to be in the right gear for any particular region or elemental foe you face.
All in all the game is great, deep and story driven. Personally though I suggest tackling this game on the hardest difficulty... Or at-least the second last. The sense of accomplishment is really rewarding.
7/10 for me.
1- minor glitches. like getting stuck in between rocks (-_-)
2- Quest Progression glitches... My word (tackle side quests to kill time)
3- Of all the touching moments I didn't see a single character shed a tear... Or maybe I closed my eyes to hold mine back. Hmmmmm...
If you are a fan of open world games and taking down colossal enemies this is the game for you. Its post apocalyptic world filled with deadly machines and bandits around every corner.
There is multiple weapons that you acquire along your adventure across the land: War Bows and Short bows dealing piercing damaged to exploding arrow heads to either snipe enemy bandits or break off machine components. Tripcaster - feel like being stealthy and cause massive damage to enemies this is the weapon for you. This weapon shoots a wired line between 2 points of your choice to set up a pathway that an enemy will walk through and either get shocked, put on fire or blasted once crossed. Another weapon is the Ropecaster, a weapon that is a GREAT help in taking down massive machines, a cable is shot into the enemy and shot into the ground to hold the enemy in place to deal massive damage. There is more to find and explore with different outfits that will assist in many situations.
This game has amazing graphics and beautiful scenery, the weather changes in an instant.
I give this game 5/5 stars and think this is the best game i have played so far for 2017.
